Title: Safety Engineer
Location: Freeport, TX
Reports to: EHS Manager
SI Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced, team-oriented individual for a full-time Safety Engineer position in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The position will assist in the development of plans, programs, and procedures to ensure a healthy, safe workplace. This individual will act as a role model in regard to plant safety rules and assist all personnel in understanding and following the rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field and/or engineering (ChemE preferred)
2. Minimum 3 years experience in a health and safety or production/manufacturing environment
3. Pass background screen & alcohol/drug screen
4 Pass company required medical examinations & Fit for Duty exam
5 Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
1. CSP Certification
2. Experience with MS Access, PHA Works
3. Skilled in behavioral-based safety, PHA Revalidation, and Process Safety Management (PSM)
4. Knowledge of Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP)
5. Experience in industrial hygiene (IH)
Functional Responsibilities:
Include, but not limited to:
1. Assist the EHS Manager in reviewing health and safety related regulations
2. Create and revise plant safety policies, standards, rules and procedures
3. Provide guidance and support to all personnel concerning safety, health, industrial hygiene and fire protection
4. Promote a safe and healthy work environment by maintaining a strong relationship with employees and encourage a positive attitude about personnel safety and process safety
5. Act as the site Industrial Hygienist. Maintain IH program and oversee industrial hygiene surveys. Oversee IH monitoring, calculations, recordkeeping, and reporting
6. Oversee safety reporting requirements including OSHA 300 logs, Workers’ Compensation, Total Recordable Injury Rate, and Days Away from Work Rate for both company and contract employees
7. Oversee site safety permitting processes including: LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Excavation, Critical Lift, and Line Breaking/Process Entry
8. Coordinate and facilitate incident investigations, and assist with trend analysis and proactive data support
9. Conduct New Employee Orientation and refresher training
10. Oversee Process Safety Management Program, including oversight of Process Hazard Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis, Management of Change, Operational Readiness Inspections, development of Process Safety Information, and providing input into written operating procedures
11. Serve as VPP Coordinator for the site and help maintain the site’s VPP Star Status
