(SII) is pleased to announce its acceptance of the 2003 Governor's Pollution Prevention Award for Excellence.  At a ceremony during its annual conference, DEC Commissioner Erin Crotty bestowed the award for SII's Phenol Recovery Program run by the Performance Resins Division at the Rotterdam Junction site.  SII's phenol recycling efforts were judged best in the state for a medium-sized company, resulting in environmental and economic benefits.

The Rotterdam Junction facility manufactures phenolic resins that are used in the manufacture of rubbers, adhesives, friction materials and inks. The plant serves the automotive market as its materials can be found in over 80% of the tires manufactured in North America. The company employs approximately 400 at its New York operations in Rotterdam Junction and at its Niskayuna headquarters.
